Putting all the pieces together:
So you’ve decided to start your healthcare business. Congratulations! There’s no time like right now to fulfill your purpose. And if healthcare is the field that you are passionate about, then get ready to pour the best of yourself into your work. It will require that, to show up and be seen. The various types of companies, agencies and organizations are so expansive that you can truly make a mark in what you want to do. First things first. These are a few things to consider in putting all the pieces together for your Brand identity, Business model and social exposure you want to establish in your own unique way.
Business Structure:
Figure out financially, what type of business structure that you want to operate under. You can start a corporation, llc, sole proprietorship. The list goes on. Just find what will work best for you. Even if you are working as an independent contractor. You can still structure yourself as a business to set yourself apart from others in your local area and industry.
Goals:
Establish goals that will support your growth. How will you work? Will you hire support staff/employees? Do you want to have a physical location? Will you work from home? What areas will you specialize in? There are many questions that you can ask yourself to determine your goals. The above are just a few to get your mind flowing.
Action Plan:
Once you’ve created a Business structure, identified your goals, the next step is activating your action plan to get to work. This again will all be based on your outlook, where you want to grow to. Where will you start on your list? What part of your action plan is most important to you? You can always try to do what others are doing in the marketplace. But only you can do what you do best. This should show up in the action plan that you create.
Marketing Strategy:
How are you going to get the word out to the world, your local community and those in your industry about what you do? How will you advertise your services or business in the healthcare marketplace? There are many ways to advertise and market . Some are free and some can cost you a good amount of money, depending on the impact that you want to have. SO decide early on how much you can spend to do this. Always work within your budget, a realistic one so that you can market consistently as you build your business.
Business Network:
Establishing yourself in a new environment, especially as a healthcare business can be VERY intimidating. There is a culture of competition that is prevalent and this can often cause many new firms to shutter their doors before they have even gained any traction. I always say, show up scared and your confidence will come. Don’t be intimidated by others who have been working longer than you. They are still paying their own dues. Network with others on the same path and you’ll see who is receptive to building with you. There are community organizations that offer spaces for networking in business, find one that fits your niche or business and show up to expose yourself to the services they offer. Establish yourself as a leader in your field , no matter what it is you are doing. If you’re a caregiver, nurse, or even a medically trained physician, there is something out there for you to expand your networking circle. Be authentic in these connections and soon enough you’ll be a part of the environment to contribute to your journey in a healthy vibrant way.
There is never just one way to do anything. And while these are a few tips that have worked for others, they may not work for you. Take the time to see what is and is not working as you develop your brand identity and keep working on the plan that will be best for you. Don’t be afraid to revise, remove and even start over if you need to. You are in control of how this can work out for you.
